MOSS TOPIARY TREES
Bring the misty softness of the early Spring woods into your home with a pair of moss topiary trees. Made with soft, green mosses and natural tree branches, the 14" trees with add a fresh Spring touch to your home. Students will make two trees and may choose a round or cone shape. Please bring an apron and floral scissors to class. A $28.00 materials fee collected in class covers all materials. 2 1/2 hrs.
BEGINNING YOUR GARDEN
Thinking about starting a garden? Growing your own tomatoes, salad greens, some vegetables and favorite herbs? Then this is the class for you. Learn where to put your garden, how to prepare the soil, whether to buy seeds or plants and when to plant. You will learn the difference between annuals, biennials and perennials and how to grow them. The class will also cover feeding, watering and general garden care. 2hrs
ORCHIDS AND MORE!
Take a tropical break! Learn how to arrange graceful sprays of colorful dendrodium orchids, elegant anthuriums, exotic proteas, tropical foliage and other plant material. You will create a long-lasting orchid-filled centerpiece for your table in an attractive glass container. Add a little candlelight, island music and a citrus and seafood based dinner and the winter blahs should take a vacation!

MOSS BASKET
Bring a touch of the spring woods into your home. Make a moss covered basket with a twiggy handle. We will begin with a simple woven basket, add a handle of freshly-picked twigs and then cover the basket with soft, green sheet moss. The finished basket can be decorated with raffia or ribbons. A selection of basket styles will be offered.
Use your moss basket as an Easter basket or to hold a pot of flowering bulbs, a fresh flower arrangement or hors d’ouevres.
Be sure to bring an apron and scissors to class. This class can be messy! A materials fee of $24.00 covers all supplies. 2 1/2hrs.
ARRANGING SPRING FLOWERS
Spring is in the air! It’s time to fill your home with the bright blossoms of the season. Learn how to buy, pick, cut and condition daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, pussy willows, flowering shrubs and other spring plant material. Each student will make three arrangements---two in glass and one in a basket with floral foam.
Please bring floral scissors and an apron to class, as well as a box to carry your arrangements home in. A $49.00 materials fee collected in class covers all plant material, mechanics and containers. 2 1/2 hrs.
SPRING TABLE GARDEN
Plant a spring garden that can be grown indoors or be enjoyed outside your door on nice days. Fill an attractive basket with colorful spring plants: cyclamin, tulips, primroses, daffodils, violas or pansies accented with lacy ferns, trailing ivies and green moss.
Your portable spring garden will look equally charming on a table, windowsill or doorstep. When summer arrives move the plants to a damp shady spot and enjoy the pansies, ferns and ivies throughout the growing season.

HERBS FOR THE KITCHEN: HOW TO GROW AND USE THEM
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme and their kissing cousins cilantro, dill, fennel, savory, tarragon and mint make the simplest meals come alive with flavor and fragrance. Learn how and where to grow them, how to use them fresh from the garden and when and how to preserve them for winter cooking.
Each student will receive informational sheets on herb growing and a copy of Betsy’s book, MRS. THRIFT’S CUPBOARD, containing recipes for herbal vinegars, pestos, mustards and butters. A tasting of Mrs. Thrift's favorite condiments is included. $18.00 pp 2 1/2hrs.
SPRING TWIG WREATH
Celebrate the return of the growing season with a 13” twiggy wreath decorated with pussy willows, lemon leaves, eucalyptus berries, colorful statices and green ruscus, then finished with ribbons or raffia to coordinate with your home decor. your wreath can be hung outdoors in a sheltered area or indoors to brighten up gray days.

FLOWERS AND FRAGRANCE IN A CONTAINER

Fill a 12” pot to overflowing with miniature roses, scented geraniums, fragrant rosemaries, trailing vines, sweet pansies and other long blooming flowering plants. Perfect for that sunny spot on a patio, doorstep or fire escape, a container garden brightens your home all summer long.
Not much sun? Let the instructor know and she will bring a selection of plants suitable for light shade.

DESIGNING WINDOW BOXES
Window boxes are gardens in a box---fun, manageable and so pretty. Window boxes can be planned to coordinate with your home’s color scheme, accent a season, celebrate an occasion, provide herbs for the kitchen or do it all at once. Annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and even miniature evergreens grow well in window boxes. Window boxes can decorate windows, steps, walls, railings, fire escapes, patios and porches.
Learn how to plant and tend window boxes, which plants are best suited for them and how to design for shade as well as sun.
